Post-Jam Changelog


Here it is! The first official update for HEX & AGON.

I have listened to all the feedback that the game received over the past two weeks, carefully took notes and added all I can to the list of issues and features I either wasn't aware of myself or changes I wanted to implement anyway. As you see, A LOT has changed.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed all health upgrades
  • Fixed a bug in the second tutorial level where dialogue would not trigger after taking specific upgrades
  • Fixed a bug on level 1 of chapter 2 where objects would just suddenly disappear
  • Fixed a bug where the dialogue text would sometimes glitch out for a split second
  • Fixed an oversight where the stronger enemy waves of chapter 2 would spawn in a level of chapter 1

Changes:

  • Option for skipping the intro / tutorial sequence (this has been the #1 requested feature BY FAR)
  • Complete sound design overhaul (custom made sound effects, new music, ambience and more)
  • High resolution hexagon sprites
  • Removed the health penalty for falling off the map / respawning manually completely, the game is difficult enough as is and it should reward players for exploring the levels, even if they take a leap of faith here and there
  • To enhance this aspect, enemies will stop spawning upon collecting all shards in the current level. This means that players can take their time to explore or even just practice moving around the scene
  • Made some improvements to Hex's character controller, it should feel less floaty and jumping up slopes should be more lenient, although you still have to work with the geometry of the level to not lose momentum and if a slope is too steep, you will still fall off
  • Changed the exaggerated post-processing effect around the portal to only be active when the portal actually spawns - and it also radiates sound to indicate its position (the closer you get to the portal, the more audible it will be)
  • Changed the appearance of shards and artifacts to stand out more (the latter are hidden collectibles)
  • Redesigned a level where you could fall into an endless death loop after collecting a shard
  • Text pauses on full stops and commas during dialogue got shortened
  • Many other quality of life improvements

Content:

  • Expanded tutorial for new players
  • 5 new levels
  • A new ending sequence and dialogue
  • 2 new upgrades (Levitate and Potency)
  • New artifact locations
  • A new narrator voice and dialogue (in the tutorial)

Various:

  • Added menu controls for controller and keyboard
  • Added changelog to the main menu
